About Us

The Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) and Sask Entertainment Group (SEG) are thrilled to announce the return of a Saskatoon franchise to Canada’s premier collegiate summer baseball league.“We believe it’s been too long since Saskatoon has had a WCBL team. We feel it’s super important for the baseball community and the City of Saskatoon to have somewhere to go on a beautiful summer evening,” said SEG Senior Vice President, Steve Hildebrand. The expansion baseball club will spend this year preparing for its first season in the WCBL, which will take place in the summer of 2024. On deck for SEG is the selection of a name for the ball club, a decision on team colours and a logo, as well as the implementation of a coaching staff.“We look forward to taking the league to higher levels of fan excitement and engagement with the involvement of Saskatoon in the coming years. We have always felt the loss of a franchise in Saskatoon and enthusiastically welcome the City of Saskatoon, its fans, and partners back to our WCBL family,” said WCBL President Kevin Kvame.Saskatoon’s new baseball club will play out of Cairns Field at the Gordie Howe Sports Complex. The facility has an approximate capacity for 2,200 fans.“I believe that this is a key market for the WCBL and am glad we could bring it back. This has been a missing piece of the Saskatoon baseball community ever since the Yellow Jackets left. I think it will be a great summertime event for businesses and community alike,” noted Hildebrand.ABOUT THE WESTERN CANADIAN BASEBALL LEAGUE (WCBL)The WCBL is Canada’s premier collegiate summer baseball league. Berries Billets

The Saskatoon Berries are looking for Billets for the 2024 Season.Billet families play a crucial role in our players’ lives. The Saskatoon Berries roster is made up of college athletes from across North America, who will call Saskatoon home for the spring and summer months.Billet families must be willing to open their homes and hearts to our players while providing them with a safe a comfortable environment allowing them to grow as athletes but more importantly as people. In return our players are also expected to display nothing but respect and courtesy to their host families and contribute to daily life in the household.Becoming a billet family is truly a unique and rewarding experience usually resulting in lifetime relationships. Our players often act as role models and siblings to families with younger children and keep in touch even after they move onto professional baseball or other avenues. We also work through a process to align players with suitable families to ensure everyone is comfortable. The Saskatoon Berries regular season runs from the middle of May until the middle of August. The team will play 56 regular season games, half of which are on the road. The primary role of a host family is to provide a safe and comfortable space for your player(s) for the duration of the season. Players will require comfortable sleeping quarters, ideally removed from the main hustle of the home (like a basement), as well as a bathroom and laundry equipment. The Saskatoon Berries are now accepting applications for the 2024 season. If you would like to apply or if you have any questions, please contact Kim Varty at kim@saskent.com
